Kamehameha Schools was founded by the will of Bernice Pauahi Bishop, a descendant of Hawaiian royalty, and the great-granddaughter of Kamehameha the Great.
Kamehameha Schools is the largest private landowner in the state of Hawai‘i. Income generated from its residential, commercial and resort leases, as well as diverse investments, fund the schools’ maintenance and operations. The Schools' endowment has experienced dramatic growth over the past few years, resulting in a total portfolio value of $7.66 billion as of June 30, 2006.
Kamehameha’s Endowment Group also manages several education collaborations which focus on utilizing Kamehameha Schools’ sizable land holdings for educational purposes. The ‘Āina Ulu program is designed to use Kamehameha lands as classrooms for project-based learning. Statewide, more than 15,000 participants were served in 2005-06. The Mālama ‘Āina program incorporates land and resource stewardship management plans which help ensure availability of resources to meet future needs.

Hawaii Angels
Hawaii Angels was founded as UH Angels by Robert Robinson Ph.D., in February 2002. The group has attracted high net worth individuals from a variety of professions including chief executives, attorneys, physicians, and scientists, who shared an enthusiasm for entrepreneurship. In June 2008, it was incorporated as a non-profit and changed its name to Hawaii Angels. The number of members has grown to nearly 80. Maui and Big Island chapters were founded in 2006.
Individual members have invested more than $30 million in various companies and have played a significant role in Hawaii's start-up community. Members often mentor entrepreneurs and provide new companies with valuable business advice and important contacts.

Hawaii Venture Capital Association
The Hawaii Venture Capital Association (HVCA) seeks to foster entrepreneurial development through networking, education, and access to venture capital. On the fourth Thursday of every month they have a networking luncheon at the Plaza Club where members and guests hear from a keynote speaker and have the chance to network. HVCA also hosts the Venture Capital Deal of The Year award ceremony in January, where entrepreneurs are honored for raising capital for their companies. HVCA also provides mentors, coaches and judges for various entrepreneurial events such as the Hawaii High School Business Competition and the University of Hawaii Shidler Business School Business Plan Competition.
HVCA is also closely aligned with other key organizations that support Hawaii entrepreneurs such as Hawaii Angels, a statewide network of angel investors.
